Lea the female Harris Hawk was hatched on the 20:09:2010.
She was owned and named by a young man (a former member of our club) who decided in 2013 to put her up for sale. Our club purchased her from him on the 13:03:2013 and renamed her Gypsy.
Although a very nervous bird at the time of purchase, with plenty of manning, training and patience she soon settled down to become bomb proof in her behaviour towards myself and the public.
She is today an absolute pleasure to work with and care for and a valued asset to the club.
Her diet consists of: Chicks, quails, small rats, pheasant or rabbits head or spine (but not shot)
Gypsy generally weights around 2lb 6oz through her moult.
The scientific name for a Harris Hawk is- Parabuteo Unicinctus.
Formerly known as the Bay Winged Hawk or Dusky Hawk, is a medium to large sized bird of prey that breeds from South-western United States to Chile and as far as Argentina.
